About Arbor Gardens
I grew up in the California town of South Pasadena, not far from the Rose Parade route and the fabulous craftsman style homes designed by renowned architects, Green and Green. South Pas was a very small and quaint town much like Santa Cruz is. With it’s wonderful old homes and established gardens, I was surrounded by classic beauty at a very early age. One of my favorite places to visit was the Huntington Library and Gardens, a world-class museum and mansion filled with important European art and furniture. The estate is situated on two hundred acres of magnificent gardens in a neighborhood of fine old estates. It remains one of my favorite places.
After college I traveled extensively in Europe with a back-pack and Eurail Pass in hand. I visited most of the capitol cities and hundreds of museums and basilicas over a 12 month period. While there I adopted a European sensibility towards art and furnishings: buy the best you can afford, and buy things that last.
After traveling in Europe I moved to Hawaii and lived on the island of Oahu for three years. There I also acquired a taste for Asian-influenced furnishings and garden style. In 1983 I moved to Santa Cruz and began selling antiques and collectibles with a nod toward all these influences.
Soon I was fortunate to find a charming old property suitable for displaying indoor and outdoor antiques, quality reproduction furniture and accessories. Arbor Gardens and Antiques is situated on a half acre of old established gardens.
